Houseplant Soil pH Explained: Test, Read, and Adjust It

Soil pH is the quiet variable in houseplant care. Light, water, and fertilizer get all the attention, but pH decides whether the nutrients in your soil are actually available to your plant. Adjusting pH — and When Not To

Repot into a peat- or coir-based mix, which is naturally acidic, or an acid-formulated mix for gardenias and azaleas.
